Tlatelolco / Xaltelolco

Tlatelolco es un lugar con una fuerte carga simbólica en la historia de la Ciudad de México; ha sido epicentro tanto de comercio y de educación como de revoluciones y masacres. 

Este lugar fue fundado por un grupo de Aztecas disidentes, quienes se separaron del grupo más amplio estaba en su camino a fundar Tenochtitlán a principios de los 1300. 

Existe un gran vacío de conocimiento de esta cultura a pesar de que construyeron el mercado más rico de Mesoamérica y fueron los últimos guerreros en caer ante la fuerza de los españoles en México Central. 

Con las piedras de su templo ceremonial, se construyó la iglesia de Santiago. Los vestigios que vemos hoy en la Plaza de las Tres Culturas nos dice poco de cómo era la primera civilización importante de este territorio.

Esta pieza busca cubrir parte del vacío a través de un ejercicio de investigación e imaginación en las capas de nuestra historia.

Tlatelolco is a place with a strong symbolical weight in the history of Mexico City; it has been an epicenter of commerce, and education as well as of revolutions and massacres.

This place was founded by dissident Aztecs, who separated from the group that was on their way to settle in Tenochtitlán during the beginning of the 1300s.

There is a large void of knowledge about this culture that built the richest market in Mesoamerica and were the last warriors to fall against the Spanish conquistadors in Central Mexico.

With the stones of their ceremonial temple, the church of Santiago was built. The vestiges that we see today in the Plaza of the Three Cultures tells us very little about the first important civilization in this territory.                                                 

This piece is created to cover a small part of the void through an exercise of investigation and imagination in the layers of our history.
